The queue runs out
Swiping is a good system when there is always another profile. It sorts a big pile fast and asks almost nothing of you. In a city the pile does not run out.
In a rural postcode the pile is small. So the system that feels effortless in Leeds feels like a dead end in Radnorshire, because you finish it in one sitting and then wait. Nothing has gone wrong. There just is not a queue to sort.
Grounded uses search and browse for exactly that reason. You set the distance yourself, you can push it out to where people actually are, and you go and look instead of waiting to be shown someone.
City features, country members
The clearest signal of who an app is built for is where it spends its effort. In March 2026 Tinder said its Events feature, the headline in person product, would go from 10 cities to 75 by the end of the year.
Seventy five cities is a serious rollout. It is also a statement about where the members are. If you are forty minutes from the nearest city, none of that work reaches you.
Everything on Grounded reaches every member at once, because nothing we build depends on being near a venue.
What you never have to explain
On a general app you spend the first three conversations explaining why you cannot come out on a Saturday in September, why a forty mile drive is normal, and what a smallholding is.
On Grounded most people reading your profile have already worked it out. Not everyone farms, and most members do not, but nobody needs the hours explained. That is the real argument for a countryside site, and it is a bigger one than member counts.
Where Tinder is the better choice
If you live in or near a city, Tinder gives you more people than any countryside site can, and more people is a genuine advantage. If you want to meet somebody this week rather than this season, the bigger pool wins.
And if it does not matter to you whether a partner understands rural life, the thing we are built on is worth nothing to you. We would rather say that than pretend otherwise.
